I hate packing, pt.2: The girlies

As if packing wasn't tedious enough, there are certain things that make packing for girls even more stressful. Here is a list of annoying "girly" things that we have to worry about:
- nail polish: takes up space and weight in your bag, and it's hard to decide which colors to bring!
- makeup: which products? for which event? and what brushes? waterproof or no? and how many lipsticks do I really need?
feminine products: why can't boys have a 'time of the month'?
- heels: the biggest suitcase space-filler EVER
- hair curlers/straighteners: trying to decide between my 1 inch or 1 1/4 inch curler... sigh
- perfume: because there's a scent for every occasion
- facial products: toner, day moisturizer, night cream, face wash, makeup wipes, masks, the list goes on
- shaving items: um, why does girls' hair have to grow so fast?
Have you ever felt the same way? Let me know your thoughts!

Late Night Thoughts

University- A Poem By Kelsey Lee

Goodbye to those who said hello,
who opened the doors of fate.
I'm leaving now and gone forever,
but the months are only eight.

I'm leaving now, across this land
that feels like over the sea,
taking me away to find myself;
the me I'm supposed to be.

Gone from the place of innocence
where I learnt 'why' and 'how.'
Thrown into an unknown world:
goodbye, I'm leaving now.

No family to hold me tight,
no friends to comfort the soul.
I'm leaving now for a lonely task
to create a reborn whole.

Uncertainty is my sole companion
as I leave the safe haven behind,
and innocence will become strength
for a woman redefined.

Farewell to the ones who taught me life,
there's no time for pain or grieving.
I love you much, with all my heart,
but so long, for I am leaving.

My heart will never ache for you
except when I'm alive.
I will not weep or feel the pain
unless six follows five.

I'm leaving now, to seek the future,
ambition in my bloodstream.
My innocence is gone forever,
and traded for a dream.

I Hate Packing

Like I said in the title, packing has definitely been one of the worst and most annoying things about leaving for University. There are so many little things that I keep forgetting about, and so I've created a list of the most forgotten about, stupidest things that many people may forget when packing for university:
- shoe rack: will keep dirty shoes organized and off the floor
- mini iron/ironing board: because no one likes wrinkly clothes
- alarm clock: don't be late for classes!
- laundry hamper: because clean clothes are good. enough said.
extension cord: laptop, iron, phone, ipod, clock, mini fridge, kettle- you get the idea
- LOTS of hangers: trust me, you'll need them
- flashlight: never hurts for an emergency
- cutlery/tupperware: for leftovers and small snacks
- adhesive or velcro hooks: schools won't allow nails, staples, or hooks in the dorm walls
- LOTS of plastic bags: for throwing out your garbage
- cold and flu medicine: just in case
- air freshener: face it, your dorm will smell pretty bad
- school supplies: believe it or not, I almost forgot these in the midst of packing!
Did I miss anything? Comment below!

One. Week.

There's officially one week left until I leave behind Vancouver to embark for university and I don't even know what to think! I'm feeling an odd mix of emotions right now and it seems completely surreal and odd to think that in just 7 days I can no longer call myself a "Vancouverite." Over the past few weeks (in which I have totally neglected this blog, oops) I have been so busy with work, hanging out with friends, and packing. Seriously, packing all my stuff into 2 bags has been so daunting and frustrating and my room looks like a hurricane flew through it. Today, I had a family party at my house for a chance to say goodbye to everyone. It was definitely a sad moment when I realized that this would be the last time I'd see them until December. I'm not going to lie, I absolutely hate saying "goodbyes" to people because it sounds so absolute and, well, sad.

Packing for Winter

Today I began the first stage of packing for university: Winter Clothes! My dad is going to Toronto next week, and he's bringing a suitcase full of my heavy winter clothes to store at my uncle's house until we arrive at the end of August. I can definitely say that this was not an easy task fitting most of my heavy sweatshirts and jackets into the suitcase! My whole room was a complete mess.

A necessity was my heavy duty snow jacket for braving the extremely cold weather in Ontario. This and my other rain jacket took up practically half the suitcase!

Of course, I couldn't forget my pink cozy booties for walking around the dorm

The finished product! I managed to fit most of my jackets and sweaters, my UGG boots, Hunter rainboots, and a few scarves and toques.

Welcome to Universe-City!

Seeing as I leave for university in exactly one month, I decided there was no better time to start this blog than today! Hi, my name is Kelsey. I'm an 18 year old girl from Vancouver, Canada, and in one month I will be leaving my friends, family, and comfort of home to explore the exciting life milestone known as "university." I'll be travelling across Canada to follow my dreams and experience life on my own. Along the way, I hope you'll follow me through all the ups and downs of university as I give you an in-depth and all-access look at my life for the next few years. On this blog you can expect helpful tips and tricks for surviving university, journal entries of my emotional highs and lows, occasional homesickness rants, and creative posts to show you my life away from home. I invite you to join me during this adventure, and I hope this blog will inspire you in some way or another. I'm not holding anything back, so join this wild ride with me and just go!
